There are number of infections which cause vaginitis in females, mainly bacterial vaginosis, candidiasis and trichomoniasis.

Bacterial vaginosis: This is caused due to the presence of several types of bacteria. One experiences heavy vaginal discharge, which is generally frothy, grayish in color and has an unpleasant odor.

Candidiasis: It’s a typical sort of infection caused due by yeast called candida. Some of the symptoms for candidiasis are thick vaginal discharge, irritation, painful intercourse, white coating on the vagina, itching and redness of the vulva. The yeast infection can increase when one’s vagina comes in contact with a male’s penis with yeast infections.

Trichomoniasis: This is the most common vaginal infection among females. Trich increases when fluids are exchanged through vaginal intercourse, mutual masturbation or by sharing sex toys. The protozoan trichomonas that causes trichomoniasis can be present on the penis, under the skin of the penis, prostate gland, urethra and other glands of the male partner.

Avoiding vaginal intercourse and sharing opposite partner’s sexual fluid is the easiest method to get rid of these vaginal diseases. For avoiding such problems insertion of tampon or other objects into the vagina should also be stopped. Visiting a physician is very important when a person is affected by such infections. During the infected or treatment period avoiding vaginal intercourse is a must, as it aggravates the condition further.
